Reports: Arsenal could announce Gabriel Jesus signing this week

Arsenal are expected to make an announcement on the signing of Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus in the coming days.

In the absence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, the Brazil international appears to have emerged as the Gunners' main target to lead the line.

Eddie Nketiah has signed a new five-year contract with Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta is still looking for a new number nine ahead of the 2022-23 season.

During their time at Man City, Arteta and Jesus worked together, and the latter is widely anticipated to leave the Premier League champions this summer.

The 25-year-old was not an essential component of Pep Guardiola's first XI last season, and Julian Alvarez and Erling Braut Haaland are expected to push him down the pecking order.

Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Juventus have all been linked with a move for Jesus, but Arsenal are said to be the frontrunners in the race.

Jesus' potential transfer to Arsenal is getting closer, according to Goal, and the Gunners may be able to announce his signing by the end of the week.

The Gunners have yet to negotiate a cost with the Premier League winners for the striker, who is valued at £50 million despite his contract expiring in 2023, according to the report.

Following his £28.8 million transfer from Palmeiras in 2017, Jesus has spent the previous five-and-a-half years at the Etihad Stadium, scoring 95 goals and assisting 46 times in 236 games.
