How Baroka Advanced to the Telkom Final to meet Pirates

Baroka FC conceded no goals on their way to meet Orlando Pirates in the 2018 Telkom Knockout Final at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

Bakgaga takes on Pirates on Saturday, 8 December in Port Elizabeth.

Wedson Nyirenda’s men knocked out two Absa Premiership strong challengers, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits without conceding a single goal on their way to their first ever cup final.

Here, Futaa looks at the Limpopo side’s route to the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

Round of 16 (October 20): Baroka 2-0 Golden Arrows

Collins Magkaka scored his first & only goal of the season, before Tebogo Sodi’s strike made it 2-0 to ensure victory at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Quarter-Finals (November 3): Baroka 2-0 Sundowns

Bakgaga stunned Sundowns in a game where coach Nyirenda was absent while attending his mother’s funeral in Zambia. Midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a very lucky decision from referee Victor Gomes. The fatal blow came via an own goal when Sundowns goalkeeper steered the ball into his own net while trying to clear.

Semi-Finals (25 November): Baroka 1-0 Bidvest Wits

Matome Mabeba’s superb freekick was enough to ensure a narrow victory that sent the Limpopo side to the TKO final.

Bakgaga reach their first major final in South Africa’s Premier Division since gaining promotion in 2015/16.
