Klopp on injury news, Man City defeat & Van Dijk expectations
Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he might be forced to play Fabinho at Center-back during their match against Brighton due to injury concerns.
Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are all expected to miss out due to injuries but the later started training yesterday according to the German gaffer. Fabinho played in that position during their 2-1 loss in the FA Cup against Wolves.
“Joel trained yesterday for the first time with the team, which is really good but we will have to see. Jordan Henderson will train today, we will see what that means exactly. Adam [Lallana] is out. Dejan [Lovren] is out and Joe [Gomez] is out, of course. All are improving but we know they are not available.
“Fabinho, if he has to play at a centre-half, he has played it before. We will work with it on the training pitch. Information can complicate things. We want the natural understanding of the game, it is still only football - if you are a holding six or a centre-half." Klopp said.
Manchester City defeat
“So far our season has been really good and now we need to carry on. Two weeks ago everyone was so excited about the distance between [Liverpool and Manchester City]. Now we have lost two games, that is not nice but it is not a real problem because those games are gone. Now we have to prepare for Brighton."
Klopp did want to speak highly of Virgil Van Dijk who has probably stabilized Liverpool’s defence but instead praise everyone in his squad. He only said his hopes are to see the towering Dutchman flourish more and play longer.
“I think much more positive about my players then I talk to you. If I follow your path with this sort of praising then we create too many headlines! When Virgil looks back on his career, and maybe he can play until he is 39, and people say he is one of the best centre-halves in Premier League history – then he did a lot of good things. He has a lot of potentials, he is a fantastic person, physically strong and has all the technical things you need as a centre-half. So many things are already good but he can improve, that is the situation. But I don’t have to judge him now and compare him to other players." he concluded.
