CAF CL: Onyango returns as Sundowns bounce to first win
Uganda Cranes skipper Denis Onyango returned to action on Saturday as his Mamelodi Sundowns earned their first win in the group stage of the 2018-19 CAF Champions League.
The giant keeper has been out since November when he picked a knee injury but was in full action at the Lucas masterpiece Moripe stadium in the Brazilians 2-1 victory over 2017 Champions Wydad Casablanca.
The visitors launched the game with speed but it was the hosts who opened the scorers through Themba Zwane in the 7th minute.
Lebohang Maboe raced on his right lane before picking out Zwane with a curling cross across the face of goal. The striker clipped it down and powered to the far angle.
Mohammed Nahiri levelled matters in the 35th with a brilliant rocket from outside the box that Onyango failed to punch out.
Zwane answered back with a similar strike just after the hour to ensure the Brazilians retain all the points.
Sundowns move second ahead of Lobi Stars who lost to ASEC Mimosa in Nigeria yesterday. All the four teams have won one and lost one of their first two games.
