Giroud is getting unjust criticism, Deschamps claims
France boss Didier Deschamps has claimed that Olivier Giroud is getting much and undeserved criticism.
Giroud was on target as France made easy work of Moldova in the European Championship Qualifiers and Deschamps feels his striker is always getting unjust criticism from various quarters. Giroud played and did not score as France won the World Cup trophy in Russia in the summer of 2018.
“He has just come out of a difficult period. He is a player who is unjustly criticised. Goals, you have to score them. Even though he didn’t at the World Cup, he was crucial too, which is good. He is closing in, the years are going by, on the end. But he is still here. He still has the desire and this freshness. He needs to keep that." the boss told Get French Football News.
The website rated the former Arsenal striker at 7.5 after the Moldova victory.
"From a potentially “overrated” player to a potentially “underrated” one, Olivier Giroud is so important to this squad. His hold up play is immaculate, his ability to make those around him better cannot be replicated by any other French striker playing at the top level, yet he is criticised. Although against weaker opposition than usual, he proved he can still be a threat and it is games like this where Giroud’s worth shines through because he can always sniff out a goal, just like he did tonight." the website wrote.
At Chelsea, Giroud has always been involved in the Europa League as Gonzalo Higuain was acquired as the main striker for the Premier League.
