Ole Gunnar Solskjaer warns Manchester United squad of 'ruthless' transfer decisions

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his Manchester United players to expect "ruthless" transfer decisions at the end of the season.

The Norwegian will oversee his first summer transfer window and is ready to make big changes as he aims to build a team capable of challenging Liverpool and Manchester City for the title next season.

"It's going to be survival of the fittest or survival of the best," Solskjaer told ESPN in a news conference ahead of the Premier League clash with West Ham on Saturday. "That's how ruthless we have to be.

"We need players here who are going to be able to take us forward. That means culture in the dressing room, what we do every single day here to make us challenge again.

"Liverpool and City are too far head at the moment for what we like. We played against a Barcelona team that sets the standard in European football. We're under no illusion it's going to be hard work and there will be some tough decisions made by me, Mick [Mike Phelan] and the club."

Some of the names that are expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer include Alexis Sanchez, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly.
