Barcelona provide Philippe Coutinho transfer update amid Manchester United links
With Manchester United linked to the transfer of Philippe Coutinho, Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed that the Brazilian will only be allowed to leave the club should a team match his release clause.
Since his move from Liverpool last year in January, Coutinho has struggled to nail down a regular starting position as he has failed to settle to life at Barcelona. The Brazilian has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou with United leading the race but Paris Saint Germain have also been reported to be interested in the midfielder. Coutinho netted a stunning goal as Barcelona progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League following a 4-0 aggregate win over United.
In an interview with TVE, Bartomeu revealed that Coutinho will stay at the club despite speculations of him leaving the club, "Coutinho is an excellent player and he has the coach’s confidence. He has a contract with us and he will remain at the team, unless they (another club) meet his release clause.” According to reports Coutinho's release clause at Barcelona currenlty stands at £355 M.
