KCB trounced SS Assad 7-1 in the FKF Shield third place playoffs with Clinton Kisiavuki and Simon Munala both registering a brace in a match played at the MISC Kasarani on Saturday 1st June.
Despite being a match for the losing teams there was some prize money at stake with third-placed and fourth-placed teams taking home Ksh 750,000 and Ksh 500,000 respectively. After shipping six goals against Bandari in the semi-finals, Assad showed some resilience in the opening minutes as they defended well and stuck to their shape.
They, however, could not sustain their tempo as KCB finally broke the deadlock a minute before the half-hour mark when former Mount Kenya United midfielder Clinton Kisiakuki fired them ahead. It took only two minutes for the Bankers to double their lead though Benson Amianda.
KCB went into the half time break leading 3-0 as they were handed a penalty in the 43rd minute for a handball inside the box with Simon Munala stepping up to slot the ball into the far left corner.
Assad looked to have given up on the tie and shipped in a fourth in the 52nd minute when Samuel Mwangi fed Clinton Kisiavuki who thumped the ball into the roof of the net as it hit the crossbar on its way in. Another two minutes separated the goal as Bolton Omwenga curled in the ball from the edge of the 18-yard area as it hit the top corner before rippling the back of the net.
KCB added a sixth in the 72nd minute when Simon Munala slotted the ball through the legs of on the onrushing Assad goalkeeper Mohamed Mwapakia as he bagged his second of the game. The Holy Month was taking a toll on several of the Assad players as they let in a seventh three minutes later with Kisiavuki also bagging his brace.
Assad finally bagged the consolation goal in the 85th minute when Abdallah Mdeka put himself on the scoresheet with a well taken shot from inside the box to hand the traveling fans something to cheer about.
