Argentina started their Copa America tournament on the wrong footing, after suffering a shocking 2-0 loss to Columbia in Group B opener on Saturday night.

Substitutes Roger Martinez and Duvan Zapata scored late into the game to stun the La Albiceleste at the Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador, Brazil.

The two sides played out a drab first half which had no single shot on target, with both teams trying hard to take control of the midfield.

Starman Lionel Messi was uninspirational through the match, which eventually sprung into life in the second half after Columbia's changes.

Both teams came back with renewed vigour as they went for the kill, and it looked like Messi and company could be the first to grab the opener, only to fall to a quick counter-attack from their opponents.

James Rodriguez split their defense with an impressive long pass to Martinez, who cut inside to evade one defender before unleashing a stunning strike on the 71st minute.

Argentina poured forward in search of an equalizer, but with a few minutes left in the match, they were caught off-guard again as Colombia scored a second to lead group B.

Argentina will now head into their second match against Paraguay hoping to prove doubters wrong while knowing well that they cannot afford to drop any point.
