Koscielny may leave, admits Arsenal boss

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has admitted the club captain Laurent Koscielny could leave this summer.

Koscielny is keen to quit the north London side after refusing to travel with the rest of the squad to the United States for the pre-season tour. However, Emery says he sees defender Rob Holding as one of his potential captains.

“I want one English player in these five captains,” said Emery in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s match against Fiorentina.

“Last year (Granit) Xhaka, Mesut (Ozil) and Nacho (Monreal) were working as captains. But after Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech left - and possibly Laurent Koscielny - I will want more.”

“An English player who grew up in our academy can understand the English spirit and Arsenal values. These are the qualities and more (we want).

Holding’s injury

“We are really happy with his (Holding’s) progress. We need his performances as a center-back. (Before) he had his injury he was really playing with big performances.”

Koscielny has one year remaining in his current contract at the Emirates and has been linked with a move to St. Etienne.
