Manchester United defender out for five months

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly will be out for five months after going for an operating following the injury he sustained a pre-season game against Tottenham in Shanghai.

Solskjaer revealed the extent of Bailly's injury after Juan Mata's late penalty gave United a 1-0 win on Tuesday night over Kristiansund, the team from the town where he was born - and for whom the Norwegian's son Noah made his debut as a late substitute.

The injury has increased Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s determination to sign defender Harry Maguire who he feels will be a massive boost to the side.

Meanwhile, United have opened talks with Juventus over a possible deal for forward Paulo Dybala. Negotiations for the 25-year-old are at a preliminary stage but any deal could involve the departure of Romelu Lukaku.

Juventus are keen on signing Lukaku and would allow Dybala to leave if they can secure the transfer of the Belgium international. Italian media have floated the possibility of a swap deal.

Inter Milan, now managed by Antonio Conte, is also interested in Lukaku.
