🗣 Mesut Özil set for talks with MLS club D.C. United?

D.C. United will hold talks this week with representatives of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil according to ESPN.

The Washington Post claimed that any deal involving the playmaker would occur during the January transfer window, which coincides with the MLS off-season break.

These rumours have surfaced at the same time as the announcement that Wayne Rooney will end his stay with the Black-and-Red team at the conclusion of the current MLS campaign and join English Championship side Derby County as a player/coach at the start of the 2020 calendar year.

Özil hasn't been a first-team regular under Arsenal's new Spanish manager Unai Emery. He played just 1740 minutes of the 2018/2019 Premier League season, notching only 20 starts.

The contract that the 30-year-old signed at the beginning of this year apparently sees him take home 22m a year. Since joining the Gunners in 2013, Özil has made 231 league and cup appearances, scoring 43 goals and winning three FA Cups.

Özil, now retired from international duty, won 92 caps for Germany, scoring 23 goals, and was a key member of the side that lifted the World Cup title in Brazil five years ago.
