Daniel Sturridge could be Wayne Rooney's replacement at DC United

​Daniel Sturridge is reportedly in contention to be the player that will replace the outgoing Wayne Rooney at DC United according to Mirror Online reports. 

Sturridge is said to still be without a club having left Liverpool after spending a total of six years with the side.

However the former the 29-year-old striker has been dealt with injury woes, but the positive news is that he is currently on the radar of approximately 13 clubs - as he looks to revive his career. 

Further reports have emerged that DC United are said to be interested in services and could be the player that replaces Wayne Rooney - although those will be big shoes to fill if the move materialises. 

Rooney will be calling time on his career at the MLS club at the end of the 2019/20 season as he looks to start on his player-coach position at English Championship side, Derby County

ESPN however, are of the belief that DC United will be facing stiff competition from clubs in Spain, Italy, and France who have also joined the rapid race to sign Sturridge. 

Real Betis, Bologna, Marseille, and Besiktas are also some of the clubs that have emerged as the ones interested in offering the English player a deal. 

Fenerbahce have former Liverpool Director of Football Damien Comolli at the helm of transfers and the former are reportedly keen on offering Sturridge £60,000-a-week wages to get him onboard.
