Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has suggested he will give N'Golo Kante a free ticket to roam in midfield, after a near-perfect performance against Liverpool in the Uefa Super Cup final on Wednesday night.
The Frenchman was returning to the starting lineup after a niggling injury and was man-of-the-match despite not being 100 percent fit.
The debate on Kante's best position in midfield has been raging for the second season now since former coach Maurizio Sarri tweaked his role to accommodate Jorginho following his arrival from Napoli last season.
Speaking during the pre-match conference on Friday, Lampard failed to clarify on his exact position but suggested Kante was allowed roam in the middle of the park.
"It was a discussion that was over-talked at times last year. We need flexibility in midfield and nobody is pinned down by a structure. He has too much in his game to sit deep all game," he said while responding to a question on Kante's best position.
Kante has adapted well to his new role which involves more attacking runs than covering the defense at the heart of midfield, with Jorginho doing the covering whenever Kante surges forward.
They played to a good effect against the Reds, and Kante showed another side of his versatile ability to even dribble and take one-ons against opponents.
He is expected to be in the starting lineup when Chelsea host Leicester on at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
