In this series of Futaa editorial, we've dug deeper to examine just how good the France squad is at the moment.
First, we take a look at their "first XI" according to teams selected in recent UEFA Euro Qualifiers and our personal preferences.
🧮 France best XI (4-2-3-1)
Nine of this XI actually started the World Cup final in Russia last year. Only Olivier Giroud and Blaise Matuidi, both the wrong side of 30, make way from that talented team. They make the "B" team, which you can have a look at it in the next segment of this series.
The young players to come in for Giroud and Matuidi are Ousmane Dembélé and Kingsley Coman. Dembélé, the Barcelona winger, is a risky selection because of his inconsistency and injury-proneness, but on his day he's a superb dribbler and goal-scorer from wide areas.
On the opposite flank, in-form Bayern Munich man Kingsley Coman is red-hot for club and country at the moment and is starting to deliver on all of the promise that he showed as a teenager.
Can this side mature together and defend their World Cup crown in three years time in Qatar? They have experience and quality right through the spine of their team, a side spearheaded by the prodigious 20-year-old Kylian Mbappe.
