Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns have signed Tokelo Rantie on a free transfer.
Sundowns have made their fourth signing of the season after unveiling the 29-year-old former Bafana Bafana striker who got released by Cape Town City in January. Rantie follows the likes of Mauricio Affonso, Sammy Seabi and Nyiko Mobbie as Kabo Yellow’s newest players this season.
“Let’s welcome Tokelo Rantie to the Brazilians Masandawana! The front man has penned a 3 year deal with Bafana ba Style! 👆,” posted the club this morning.
To offer the reasoning behind what is clearly a risk signing, coach Mosimane commented to the media to explain the thinking behind signing Rantie.
“But he is a good player and he is getting better. And I say to myself, if there’s one player I’m going to give a chance, it’s Tokelo. Whether he is going to make it or not, I’ll give him a chance. When he’s with me, I’ll give him a chance to play premier league. He is a good player,” Mosimane said on July 31st.
Up next for Sundowns is a trip to the Seychelles to face Cote d’Or in a CAF Champions League qualifier. The game kicks off at 14:00 on Saturday.
