Vincent Kompany has reflected on an emotional time at the Etihad Stadium for his testimonial and legacy as he leaves at Manchester City.
Kompany didn’t feature for his side City legends due to injury as it settled for a 2-2 draw with Premier League All-Stars. Ex-City striker Benjani scored a late leveller to secure a draw for the hosts. Robin Van Persie looked to have spoiled the party with a curling strike to put the visitors 2-1 up after Robbie Keane had canceled out Martin Petrov's first-minute opener, but Benjani struck in the dying moments to equalize, to the delight of the Etihad crowd.
“It was emotional for me. I was imagining my Dad up there, he would have been so proud. This is such a big club now, a global club, and I never thought it was possible. For a minute I just stood still and thought ‘this is nice,’” he said.
“It was awesome to watch, and in the end, we got a draw and that was fine. It’s been a perfect evening and I couldn’t have wished for more.”
