Mustafi open to leaving Arsenal in January

Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi is still open to leaving English Premier League side Arsenal after failing to secure a move over the summer.

Mustafi has become somewhat of a bit-part player at Arsenal after the arrival of David Luiz from Chelsea and speaking after their Europa League win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, the defender said he was open to a move as early as January.

“My dad talked to the club. I am a player of Arsenal and have another two years of contract,’ Mustafi is quoted by the Mail. “I was never the one who starts a war when something does not work out.”

“If something turns out, I’m open to taking the next step. If not, then I will continue my football. The coach told me that he sees me the same way as any player in the team. That’s why I played today.

“If at some point a club from Germany has an interest and it fits, I’m open for it.”

Number One

The German was once Arsenal’s number one centre-back, but performances have left him down the pecking order after the arrivals with Unai Emery preferring Luiz and Sokratis Papastathopoulos as his central defensive pairing.

Despite featuring in 31 Premier League games last season, Mustafi is yet to feature for Arsenal in the English top-flight during the current campaign.

The game against Frankfurt was his first for the Gunners this season.
