Zico blames his defence and blunt attack in Gor Mahia loss

KCB FC head coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno believes his defence was not at its best when they fell to Gor Mahia in week three of the Kenyan Premier League action.

Goals from Francis Afiriye and Lawrence Juma for Gor Mahia rendered Enock Agwanda’s second-half penalty as a mere consolation and according to Zico who acknowledged that they were poor in the first half, his defence together with a series of wasted chances from his side didn’t do them any favours.

“I think it was a game of two halves. They had their say in the first half more so in the midfield but we did seal the loopholes in the second half. It was just a matter of time before we could score but I’m not happy because we lost a lot of scoring opportunities.

“If you look at their goals, they were goals that we gave easily.  If you don’t defend well then it becomes very difficult for you to win matches,” Zico said after the game.

Defensive laxity

The tactician, however, believes that the defensive laxity is something they can address heading into their next games.

“I think it’s (defensive mistakes) something we can work on. We made a change in the defence by bringing in Warambo (Bethwel) for Pascal (Ogweno) and that may have brought some mishap in the defence but it’s something we can work on,” he added.

KCB who are seventh on the log host league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz in their next league tie.
