CAF CL: Eagles win away but bow out

Green Eagles bowed out of the CAF Champions League despite recording a one-nil win over Clube Desportivo 1º de Agosto in the second leg of their CAF Champions League pre-group stage encounter away in Angola.

The Kawale boys went into the much on the back of a 2-1 first-leg loss at home and needed a 2-0 win to secure progression to the group stage.

Eagles started strong and pressed the home side putting them on the back foot. After coming close a number of times, The Choma based outfit finally broke the deadlock in the 44th minute as Tapson Kaseba finished off a Spencer Sautu pass to make it 1-0 and 2-2 on aggregate.

In the second stanza Eagles pushed for the winner but could not manage to break a resilient Agosto defense for the second time as they held on to lose one-nil and progress to the group stage while Eagles drop to the CAF Confederation Cup.

Eagles will be paired with one a team that qualified to the playoff for a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. The draw for the two competitions will be held on Wednesday, 9 October 2019, at the Hilton Pyramids Resort (6th October City) at 19H00 local time (17H00 GMT).
