Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has explained how he attempted to sign Leicester ace Ben Chilwell.
Klopp was addressing the media ahead of his side's meeting with Leicester on Saturday evening. The Reds boss revealed back in 2016, Liverpool tried to sign Ben Chilwell before he had truly broken through at City.
He recommended to Klopp by his good friend David Wagner, then manager at Huddersfield, where Chilwell had been on loan. But Leicester held firm in the face of Liverpool interest and now they have an England international left-back in their ranks.
“Ben Chilwell, I first was aware of him when he was on loan at Huddersfield and Dave Wagner was pretty much in my ear every day, but Leicester didn’t want to let him go, so he’s still there, which is good for him. He’s a grown-up player, he’s not a kid anymore, and football-wise, he’s exceptional," he said.
The Reds will host Leicester today at Anfield starting from 5:00 PM EAT.
