Brian Nyakan goal three minutes from time handed Sofapaka FC all the entire points after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bandari FC on Sunday 6 October at the Kenyatta Stadium-Machakos.
Bandari had been held by Rangers in a rescheduled midweek tie at the Mbaraki Sports ground just days after they qualified to the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup and they were out to cover for the lost ground against Sofapaka who were having a rough patch of their own.
Former Gor Mahia midfielder Cercidy Okeyo didn’t waste any time in reminding Bandari they were in for a long afternoon with a goal in the fifth minute; a lead they persevered until the half time break.
Bandari was not going to relent in their bid to save the game and deservedly restored parity in the 58th minute through William Wadri but Nyakan had other ideas when he came up with a goal three minutes from time.
The win, Sofapaka’s second in the season, propelled them to eighth on the log with seven points; a just a point below Bandari FC who finds themselves at position sixth.
Sofapaka’s next opponent in the league is a duel against Nzoia as Bandari welcomes bottom-placed Chemelil.
