Bafana Bafana’s Sunday game won’t be the only local football action on offer this weekend.
The annual 2019 Macufe Festival has confirmed this year’s football challenge for this Sunday 12 October.
As it has been happening every year, Kaizer Chiefs will make a trip to Bloemfontein to take on Celtic - and this weekend sees Amakhosi coming out to defend the title.
2018’s edition saw the Glamour Boys earn a 2-0 win curtesy of Lebogang Manyama and Dumisani Zuma.
With the game being a friendly match, both Chiefs and Celtic technical teams most often give an opportunity to players on the fringes.
Celtic coach Lehlohonolo Seema should give a run to footballers like Mondli Mpoto, Avuyile Nyamende, Ryan De Jong and Neo Maema.
For Chiefs, we may expect to see the likes of Siphelele Ntshangase, Kabelo Mahlasela, Lorenzo Gordinho, and James Kotei.
Macufe results since 2010:
- 2017: Celtic 4-2 Chiefs
- 2016: Celtic 1-4 Chiefs
- 2015: Celtic 1-0 Chiefs
- 2014: Celtic 1-1 Chiefs (5-3 penalties)
- 2012: Celtic 1-0 Chiefs
- 2013: Celtic 1-0 Chiefs
- 2012: Celtic 4-3 Chiefs
- 2011: Celtic 1-2 Chiefs
- 2010: Celtic 1-1 Chiefs (5-4 penalties).
The match is set for a 15:30 kick off at the Free State Stadium.
