Cyril Chibwe has officially ended all possibilities of wearing the Bafana Bafana jersey.
The Polokwane City goalkeeper announced himself to Mzansi vs Kaizer Chiefs last month with a Man of the Match performance at FNB.
That performance and several other games prompted Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki to dial Polokwane’s office. Unfortunately, the 27-year-old Chibwe, whose father is Zambian, has rejected Mzansi in favour of Chipolopolo.
Needing a replacement for the injured Bidvest Wits keeper Brandon Peterson, Ntseki explained to Soccer Laduma that failure to get Chibwe led to the calling of Wits goalkeeper Ricardo Goss.
“We (did) our research and found that he is a South African, who was born in the North West, but unfortunately he will be joining the Zambian team in camp. That is why we then had Ricardo (Goss) coming in,” Ntseki said.
“I think maybe he was approached long before we did. Maybe they made the necessary preparations for him to join the Zambian team. If he didn’t have the Zambian passport they would have had to do it for him. But it’s good for him,” Ntseki added.
Meanwhile, Chibwe also came out to social media to for personal confirmation. The former Jomo Cosmos keeper told Far Posts’ Twitter that his decision was essentially in honour of his father’s dream.
