Maguire: Club form affecting England

Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire believes poor form at club level led to England's loss in their EURO 2020 Qualifier match against the Czech Republic.

The Three Lions suffered a 2-1 defeat in Prague, denting their qualification for next year's showpiece.

England's backline consisted of players whose clubs are struggling in domestic action, led by Maguire, whose Man United side is going through a rough patch in the English Premier League.

Alongside the former Leicester, City man was Everton's Michael Keane, with the flanks marked by Tottenham's Danny Rose and Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier, with the latter's side yet to win a single match since September.

"Yes, maybe," he responded to the question on whether they were low in confidence going into the match.

"We bring our club football into the international level. It was a difficult game. Don’t get me wrong, we started sloppy. We took the lead in the game but we didn’t deserve to,"

"In the second half we controlled the game a lot more than the first half but we gave them a sloppy goal to win the game. We do need to improve on that. We were not at our best and got punished for it,"

England had taken the lead during the match in Prague from the spot through Harry Kane, but it was almost immediately cancelled out by Jakub Brabec.

With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Zdenek Ondrasek popped up to score a late winner with a few minutes to go, forcing Gareth Southgate's men to wait longer to confirm their qualification.
