Super Eagles goalkeeper Uzoho out for at least six months

This is not the best of times for Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho following an injury he sustained during Nigeria's 1-1 draw with Brazil in an international friendly.

Uzoho started the match but was stretchered off the pitch in the 65th minute as a result of what is now a serious injury. He was replaced with Maduka Okoye.

According to AllNigeriaSoccer, Cypriot First Division club Omonia Nicosia, where Uzoho is spending the whole of the 2019-2020 season on loan from Deportivo de La Coruña, have confirmed that the goalkeeper has suffered a fractured anterior cruciate ligament.

Though both clubs did not disclose how long the 20-year-old will be out of action, the estimated return from an ACL injury is within six to nine months.

Uzoho’s injury comes at a time when he’s finally getting his career back on track. The former Elche goalkeeper endured a torrid time with both club and country last campaign but he’s now enjoying a fine run of form.

Rohr will now scratch his head for a reliable replacement ahead of Nigeria's next two matches - AFCON 2021 qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho in November.
