Despite being ruled out by Manchester United for the clash against Liverpool, David de Gea has revealed to his friends that he could start in the fixture.
De Gea picked up a groin injury in Spain's 1-1 draw against Sweden in the UEFA European Championship qualifiers and was replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ruled him out alongside Paul Pogba for the tie against Liverpool.
According to the Times, the injury is not thought to be particularly serious and De Gea has told friends that he could start, with a final decision only being made after further tests on Friday. United, however, does not want to gamble with De Gea's injury and would prefer starting with Sergio Romero in goal.
Incredibly, Romero has not started a league match in 17 months, though is widely considered one of the best second choice goalkeepers in the Premier League.
