Asieche, Wakhungu take surprising lead in KPL Golden boot race

Ellie Asieche and Collins Wakhungu have taken a surprise lead in the Kenyan Premier League golden boot race as the league entered its sixth week over the weekend.

Wakhungu has been one of the consistent players in a Nzoia Sugar FC side that have started the season in a not so convincing way with the player bagging a brace in their surprising 2-1 win over Sofapaka FC over the weekend.

Sofapaka consolation goal in the same game that was played at the Sudi Grounds on Saturday saw his tally rise to four goals; the same number as Wakhungu and Allan Wanga who helped Kakamega Homeboyz to a 4-2 win over newbies Wazito FC.

On three goals is a chunk of players with this lot led by last season’s golden boot winner Enosh Ochieng of Ulinzi Stars.

Despite not scoring in the weekend after his team was held to a goalless draw by KCB, Enosh will hope that the outing changes in their next fixture. The three-goal mark has Gor Mahia captain Kenneth Muguna who didn’t feature in the club’s 1-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks, John Makwatta of AFC Leopards, and Tusker FC’s Luke Namanda.
