FKF Disciplinary committee clears CEO of any wrong doing

Football Kenya Federation Disciplinary committee has cleared its Chief Executive Offficer Robert Muthomi of any wrong doing following his suspension due to a saga that revolved around the transfer of Harambee Stars striker John Avire.

Avire's move to FC Tanta of Egypt was rejected by Sofapaka days after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with the club President Mr. Elly Kalekwa accusing Muthomi of sneaking the player outside the country without their knowledge.

A letter had circulated around of Mr. Muthomi requesting the Egyptian embassy to allow Avire travel to Egypt as a fan together with another person believed to be an intermediary in what many saw as a malice to secure a move for the player with others terming it an abuse of the position he held.

Insufficient Evidence

In their rulling, the committee partly said: "Having considered all the evidence laid before it, the committee is of the view that in the broad sense there was insufficient adduce evidence to the effect that the respondent abused his office."

The committee however noted that there were ethical issues with Muthomi and urged FKF to take the concern into consideration.

"In conclusion, the committee holds that despite the fact that there was no brazen evidence of abuse of office, there were certain ethical concerns on the respondent's part in the general handling of the matter. The committee hopes that the federation will take this ethical concern into consideration in any discussion with the respondent and the staff at the federation generally."

Muthomi was replaced by Barry Otieno on an interim basis and it is still unclear whether the changes will be made permanent or not.
