Jesse Were nets a brace as Zesco United down Red Arrows

Kenyan international Jesse Were bagged a first-half brace in Zesco United's 2-0 win over Red Arrows in a Zambian Super Division match staged at the Nkoloma Stadium on Saturday 2nd November.

Were takes his week's tally to five after netting a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Lusaka Dynamos on Wednesday.

The two goals also take his tally to 11th of the season from nine games as he sits at the top of the top scorer's table.

Were's compatriot Anthony Akumu was also handed a start but David Calabar Owino sat of the match despite featuring during the week while Ian Otieno was in goal for Red Arrows.

The former Tusker FC forward netted his first goal in the 19th minute and he completed his brace two minutes after the half-hour mark.

Zesco now open up a seven-point lead at the summit of the table and maintain their 100% start to the season after winning all their nine opening games.

Were, Akumu and Ian Otieno have all been called up in the Harambee Stars provisional squad that is set to face Togo and Egypt in the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
