πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦β˜ οΈπŸ”΅ Maritzburg get a point from wasteful Pirates

Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United shared the spoils in an Absa Premiership battle in Soweto tonight.

Bucs’s only two changes were Gabadinho Mhango and Abel Mabaso in for the suspended duo of Thembinkosi Lorch and Mthokozisi Dube.

Visitors Maritzburg made a trio of changes. In came goalkeeper Richard Ofori, Jeremy Brockie and Daniel Morgan.

Kabelo Dlamini wasted Pirates’ first clean chance inside the first minute. The 23-year-old was played in by Vincent Pule and Mhango before attempting a soft short straight to Ofori.

The game’s big talking point was two red cards. Pirates skipper Happy Jele saw two yellow cards - while the same also happened to Kwanda Mngomnyama for the Team of Choice.

Rhulani Mokwena’s substitute Justin Shonga wished VAR was inside the Orlando Stadium. The Zambia hit an electric volley that came off the underside of the crossbar but the officials ignore appeals for a goal.

The final chance of the game fell for Mhango on 90+4 minutes. The Malawian forward saw an Augustine Mulenga chip fall for him on the volley but the former Wits attacker failed to get the perfect connection inside the six-yard box.

In the end, Maritzburg were happy to take the point home while Pirates accepted a third game without a win. Bucs will be next in the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
