Kisumu All Stars tasted their first-ever Kenyan Premier League victory in a 1-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks who extended their woeful run in a match staged at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Saturday 9th November.
Both teams came into the clash in an awful run of form with All Stars failing to win any game this season while Sharks only managed only a win against struggling Chemelil Sugar.
Sharks made a number of changes in their starting line up that lost to Zoo FC with Amani Kyata, Eric Juma and James Mazembe replacing Geoffrey Shiveka, Sven Yidah, and Eric Kapaito.
The two teams were at it in the first half, but All Stars who are on their debut season in the KPL and having not won a game let pressure get the best of them as they conceded possession cheaply and wasted the few chances presented to them.
All-Stars dominated the second half but failed to carve out any meaningful chances with the best chance of the half coming in the final 10 minutes when Amani Kyata drove the ball from his own half, invited by the retreating Otenga defense as he lashed out a long-range effort that was parried away by Geoffrey Were.
Amani own goal
Sharks' lapse in concentration in the final minutes of the game led to them conceding as Amani Kyata turned the ball into his own net after deflecting a long-range effort into his own net while trying to clear it in the 89th minute.
All Stars held on for their first win of the season as they move to 16th on the log, pipping Sony Sugar while Sharks remain 15th with seven points.
Otenga next face Wazito on Wednesday 20th November after the international break while Sharks will host Ulinzi Stars a day later.
