Gor Mahia coach reveals what happened at half time during derby win over AFC Leopards

Gor Mahia has revealed the motivation behind his team’s second-half display against arch-rivals AFC Leopards on Sunday.

Gor had started the game in a slow fashion and was lucky not to go behind before the break but looked a different team in the second half where they scored four goals past a hapless Leopard.

According to head coach Steve Pollack while addressing the press after the game, he had no option but to show his emotions in their half time pep talk; an occurrence he believes changed the mentality of his charges.

“Have you seen water bottles flying? A times you have to show them your anger to let them know where you are. I’m working all week and they have to work hard when they are on the football pitch and I thank God they did what I needed in the second half. I’m proud of them,” Pollack said.

Nice Feeling

The coach further described the derby win as a nice feeling and quashed down talks of winning the title instead saying there was still a long way to go despite admitting that the win over their rivals was a morale booster.

“It was my first derby in Kenya and winning it is a brilliant feeling. The first half was a disaster but I’m glad they responded well to the words we had at half time. Yes we are on top (of the table) but there are more games to go but this win will give us the needed confidence,” Pollack added.

Gor Mahia will leave the country on Tuesday for Libya where they are slated to take on Al Hilal Benghazi on Saturday 16 November.
