The young Super Eagles of Nigeria came from behind to defeat Zambia 3-1 in last night’s AFCON U23 clash.
The Zambians were the first to shoot ahead on 12 minutes. RB Salzburg’s Patson Daka lobbed a skilful finish past Nigeria goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar.
Nigeria’s Orji Okonkwo had an equalizer to find on 16 minutes - he made an easy tap in after collecting a perfect cross inside the six-yard area.
Nigeria’s lead would come 20 minutes after the break. Kelechi Nwakali fired home a glorious free-kick on 65 minutes for 2-1. While pressing desperately to find a level, Zambian hearts took bitter heartbreak as Taiwo Awoniyi found Nigeria’s third goal to seal the win.
