Gor Mahia succumbed to their second Kenyan Premier League loss of the season after going 2-1 down at the hands of Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday 12 January in Bukhungu-Kakamega.
This fixture has always been a platform for Kakamega Homeboyz boss Cleopahs Shimanyula to stump some authority in the press box but he chose a silent mode this time; a move that saw a section of Gor Mahia fans tease him on his silence.
The talking though, for Shimanyula, seems to have been left for the pitch with Homeboyz matching their visitors from minute one. In what was a reserved approach from coach Nicholas Muyoti, they were to take the lead in the 20th minute through Shami Kibwana; the former Thika United man beating Boniface Oluoch after beating a series of Gor players.
In their known style, Gor Mahia waited until the 43rd minute when they responded through Nicholas Kipkirui who towered above the hosts' defence to ensure the game headed to the breather with both teams on the same page.
The relentless Homeboyz were never going to take things lying down and they regained their lead in the 66th minute through Ali Bai and despite a late surge from Gor, they were to surrender what was to be their second loss of the season.
The loss pushes Gor back to fourth spot with 32 points after playing three games than their opponents; Tusker leading the log with 37 points after their win over Bandari in the day with Homeboyz placed second a point below the leaders.
