Serie A giants Juventus have confirmed that defender Merih Demiral suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury on Sunday.
In a statement on their official website, Juve noted: “The conditions of Merih Demiral.
“Merih Demiral sustained a sprain to his left knee. The diagnostic tests carried out at J Medical this morning revealed injury to the anterior cruciate ligament along with associated injury to the meniscus.”
The defender was substituted off during the team’s 2-1 win against Roma on Sunday with the new development being a blow to Juventus who since August has been deprived of the services of defender Giorgio Chiellini after he suffered a similar injury.
Demiral is expected to miss the rest of Juventus' season and is a major doubt for Euro 2020; his injury coming after notching the opener in the Sunday win.
He has recently displaced Dutch youngster Matthijs de Ligt in the starting line-up with the latter now expected to be handed his opportunity in the team after struggling in his first season in Italy.
