Atletico Madrid has received a blow ahead of their derby with Real Madrid with the confirmation that youngster Joao Felix has suffered a muscular injury.
A statement on Atleti’s website noted: “João Félix suffered a muscle injury to his right leg during Sunday’s match against Club Deportivo Leganés. Given the ongoing pain after the day of rest, the club’s medical services have performed tests to diagnose the injury. He is pending response to treatment.”
It isn’t clear when the Portuguese international will be back but reports say he might miss a few games in the coming weeks.
Felix has struggled to make an impact at the Wanda Metropolitano this season despite arriving with a huge £113million price tag last summer from Benfica and the latest injury just compound to his woes. The injury is a double blow for head coach Diego Simeone who is without the services of striker Diego Costa.
The Portuguese has scored just four times and registered one assist this season and hasn't been helped by the club who are struggling too.
Atleti is placed fifth in the Laliga table and were knocked out of the Copa Del Rey by third-tier outfit Cultural Leonesa; the game against Real Madrid slated for Saturday at the Bernabeu.
