Former Super Eagles player Obodo says team not doing badly

Nigeria failed to reach the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and a year earlier did not make it from the group stage of the FIFA World Cup, but former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo says the team is not doing badly.

Super Eagles' strength will be tested when they kick off their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

They will seek to survive tests from Liberia, Cape Verde and Central African Republic, as well as a final stage two-legged fixture to make it to a seventh World Cup appearance.

"The draw will always present its challenges but the most important thing is that players we have now and Coaches aren’t doing badly; our team is good,” said Obodo, a 2006 AFCON bronze medalist on Brila FM.

“Every team in Africa is improving, we may not be the same Super Eagles from years ago, that could defeat teams with 5-0, 4-0 scorelines, but this team is growing and I believe in them.”

Obodo, who featured for Nigeria 21 times since making his debut in 2004, did insist on the need for the team to keep improving.

“They can do better though, we need to support them and give them the confidence they need, and we will always back them with prayers.”
