Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has emerged as a target for Premier League side Chelsea, with the future of Kepa Arrizabalaga hanging in the balance.
The Spaniard has come under criticism in recent months due to poor performances, with coach Frank Lampard said to be keen on axing the 25-year-old.
He was dropped in favour of Willy Caballero last week as the Blues drew 2-2 away at Leicester, but is expected to start against Manchester United on Monday night.
Henderson has caught the eye of a number of teams with assured performances on loan at Sheffield and is among the top performers of the current campaign.
The 22-year-old has kept nine clean sheets this season, same as Liverpool’s Alisson and Burnley's Nick Pope.
Pope has also been mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Arrizabalaga, who is reported to have held talks with Lampard after the Leicester match.
"It’s a decision I have not taken lightly," Lampard explained the decision to drop the Spaniard.
"They train together, they are close and it’s one I thought I’d make for this game. I trust in Willy, he’s very professional," he added.
Arrizabalaga arrived at Chelsea in August 2018 for a gaolkeeper record fee of £72m from Athletic Bilbao.
