Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson wanted new strikers to bolster the squad and lost Christian Kouame to Serie A side Fiorentina at the last moment.
Kouame was meant to make a move to Palace but the deal collapsed at the last minute after he sustained an injury and Fiorentina's sporting director Daniele Prade confirmed to CalcioNews24.
La Viola acquired an exciting player that gave the fans something to feel good about considering how the team is struggling on the Serie A standings - the injury was an unfortunate blow for the Eagles.
“Cristian had already been sold to Crystal Palace (but) the injury stopped everything and we took the ball,” Prade said, explaining how Fiorentina signed the 22-year-old.
“Christian is a strong footballer. Buying an injured player in January may seem like a risk, but it is not.”
Kouame sustained a ligament injury in November 2019 and is expected to be on the sidelines until the European summer.
