How should Chelsea lineup against Tottenham on Saturday? Club legend has some advise for Lampard

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has urged Frank Lampard to revert to a 3-4-3 formation on Saturday against Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues suffered a demoralizing 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester United on Monday night, and face a daunting task against their London neighbors.

Frank Lampard's side picked a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Nevin feels they can overcome Mourinho's side with the right tactics.

In the reverse fixture, a well-drilled 3-4-3 setup was effective, and Nevin feels this is the way to go especially with a number of players out injured.

"With Marcus Alonso fit, rested and a specialist in that formation it could work," he wrote in his weekly column.

"He also has Reece James, whose game seems made for the same position on the right-hand side of that middle four. Considering the goal shipped from a dead ball against United,"

"Even if Andreas Christensen isn’t fit after his facial injury, there is still Rudiger, Tomori, Zouma and of course Azpilicueta available to play in a back three. There are plenty of injuries but at least we have cover back there at the moment,"

"I mention Azpi as one of those ‘center-backs’ because he is perfectly comfortable in that position and is much better in the air than many people give him credit for. There was a goal-saving header when Kurt Zouma was beaten by Harry Maguire on Monday in the second half, and remember it was our Dave that caused chaos in the United backline from the corner that Zouma ‘scored’ from,"

Chelsea are without their top striker Tammy Abraham, who will be assessed ahead of the match, Christian Pulisic and N'Golo Kante, who picked an injury on Monday night against United.

The race for a top-four finish is becoming tighter as the season draws to an end, with Monday's loss cutting Chelsea's lead over United to just three points.

Spurs could move above Chelsea if they win at Stamford Bridge, while United can draw level if they win against Watford.
