Salomon Rondon opens up on failed Man United move during January transfer

Salomon Rondon has revealed that he came close to joining Manchester United in the recently closed January transfer window.

The Manchester club were in desperate need of a striker to fill the void left by the injured Marcus Rashford, who was ruled out for a number of weeks.

The former Newcastle striker's name came up as a possible short-term option, but United eventually settled for Nigerian Odion Ighalo.

It was all out of my hands," the 30-year-old said as quoted by The Athletic.

“It means a lot to be linked with Manchester United because they have a great history and it must mean they think I did well in the Premier League.

“They started to talk to my agent and I was just waiting by my phone for a decision, maybe for the lawyers, but then I saw Ighalo had signed.

"It didn’t get to the stage where an offer was made or anything like that, but I think it was really close.”

Rondon, who currently plays for Dalian Professional in the Chinese League, had successful stints in the Premier League, turning out for  West Brom before a loan stint at Newcastle.
