Benjamin Oketch struck twice in the second half as Kakamega Homeboyz came from two goals down to emerge 3-2 winners of Nzoia Sugar FC in a Kenyan Premier League game staged at the Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday.
Nzoia who are one of the teams doing all they can to avoid the drop thought they had boosted their chances of staying away from the relegation red line when they took a 2-0 lead at half time.
Peter Gin was to give the visitors a 22nd minute lead with a well-taken strike that sailed past Geoffrey Oputi after connecting well to a Gaetab Masha cross.
Phillip Muchuma then ensured Nzoia had a healthy 2-0 lead with a goal in additional minutes of the first half heading in a Barari Rand floated free-kick.
With two goals down, Homeboyz coach Nicholas Muyoti was to throw in Allan Wanga for Masinza. Homeboyz were doing all they can to rescue the game and with the game headed for a Nzoia win, Wanga pulled a goal back seven minutes from time
The hosts were not done yet as Oketch restored parity in the 88th minute before notching in the winner deep in stoppage time.
The win puts Homeboyz firmly in the league title race after Tusker had dropped points in the week against Kisumu All-Stars. The Kakamega based side are placed second on the log with 47 points just four points below leaders Gor Mahia.
Nzoia remains 15th with 12 points and will hope for a change of fortunes when they meet KCB FC in their next tie.
