Chelsea defender Emerson urged to quit club by Italy boss

Italy national team boss Roberto Mancini has urged defender Emerson Palmieri to leave Chelsea if he has any ambitions of making his Euro 2021 squad.

Emerson has made only eight appearances in all competition this season with his last start coming in January where they managed a 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Mancini said: “It would be nice if Emerson Palmieri, who hasn’t played much for Chelsea, could come and play in Italy.”

The Italian started the season as Lampard’s first-choice left-back but has slowly fallen out of favor with César Azpilicueta preferred in back-four setups and Marcos Alonso in back-three/wing-back formations.

This has been a contrast to lasts season under Maurizio Sarri where Emerson was one of the started for the Italian ahead of Alonso.

Emerson who turns 26 this summer has two more years left on his Chelsea contract and reports indicate that Chelsea is willing to listen to offers for the player if they can find a back up to Alonso on the left-back position.

Already the player is being linked with a move to AS Roma with a series of unnamed Italian clubs said to be interested in his services too.
