Coronavirus: What will be discussed at the UEFA meeting tomorrow?

The 55 member associations in UEFA have been invited to a conference call with the European football's governing body tomorrow (Wednesday), for an update on what needs to be done to manage the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

But, what exactly will be mentioned?

Finishing the season

Because all football activities have been suspended at the moment, UEFA will have to discuss how the 2019/20 domestic seasons will be played to completion.

This, however,  includes Champions League and Europa League matches.

When are they looking to finish?

If the leagues return, a set end date must be discussed.

There was another meeting in mid-March and it was decided that the leagues should be wrapped up by 30 June, but it is widely accepted now that this will not be possible and the European club finals have all been postponed indefinitely.

How will the Champions League and Europa League be finished?

The prestigious UCL and UEL competitions have to be played. With leagues resuming, the calendar has to be squeezed, and the player's summer break will be shorter.

This will also be mentioned.

What about the 2020-21 season?

A rush to finish the leagues would suggest that the start of the new season has to be discussed.

A crucial topic would be the need for an agreement that clubs will have to extend deals for all players beyond 30 June, not just those they wish to retain.

We will update you on the decisions that will be made after the meeting.
