Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has named the toughest players he has faced during his playing career.
The Netherlands captain believes Barcelona captain Lionel Messi and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero have been the toughest players he’s been up against despite being one of the best defenders currently in world football.
While taking part in a Twitter Q&A on Tuesday night, Van Dijk said: "There are some difficult strikers out there but probably Leo Messi."
Asked who the hardest player to mark was, the defender replied: "Agüero."
The 28year old has been a vital figure in the dominating Liverpool squad that dominated the European scene last season and is gunning for the league title this season with the player having joined the Reds to a memorable Champions League triumph last season.
The Reds' defender and his teammates have been forced out of their Melwood training base as they wait to hear how the Premier League run-in will be concluded.
