Manchester United has reportedly decided to pay no more than €80m for the services of midfielder Saul Niguez.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that the Red Devils were willing to pay his €150m (£132m) release clause, but AS now claim that United would only be prepared to spend €80m (£70m) to sign the 25-year-old Atletico Madrid man.
Saul is still one of Simeone's favorite players, having started in all but one game this season. However, the basis for these transfer rumors is that Saul might be unhappy with his inability to hold down a spot in central midfield.
Simeone has deployed him as a wide midfielder and even as a full-back on a number of occasions this season, with just 18 of his 37 appearances coming in his preferred central role.
It is said that United would be willing to keep him in midfield permanently and if Paul Pogba moves away from the club, he would be a good fit.
