Odion Ighalo contract with Manchester United ends today; whats next for the Nigerian?

Odion Ighalo short loan deal with Manchester United is set to end today with no clear picture of where the Nigerian would be in the coming days.

United is said to have been keen to extend the striker's loan deal but with the Chinese Super League set to resume at the end of June, his parent club Shanghai Shenhua wanted him to return to the club.

It has been reported that United are reluctant to pay in excess of £20 million Shenhua is asking for the 30-year-old, with his wages also an issue.

There have been reports that Shenhua has offered Ighalo a bumper new contract worth £400,000 per week for four years but will withdraw it if he stays on loan to the end of the English season.

A return to the parent club in these coronavirus times is another complication as there is a travel ban on foreign nationals returning to China with reports thehindu.com indicating that the superleague may have to kick off without its foreign stars and coaches.

In addition, The Mirror claims that the restart date for the Chinese league may be pushed back a little which means that the negotiations between the two clubs could continue in the coming weeks.

Until the situations are solved, Ighalo may find himself in limbo, training with United without a contract.
