Napoli advanced to the finals of the Coppa Italia for the first time since 2014 after beating Inter Milan 2-1 on aggregate.
Napoli were in a strong pole position to advance to the finals of the tournament after registering a 1-0 victory in the first leg away to Inter Milan. However, Milan were on level terms after two minutes of play as Christian Eriksen netted the first to cancel Napoli's 1-0 lead they had in the first leg.
The hosts never gave up as they pushed for an equalizer, thanks to Dries Mertens strike just before the half-time, restoring Napoli's lead on aggregate.
It was a brilliant start to both sides as they were awarded corners in the opening two minutes, but Inter made far more of theirs. Eriksen whipped it into the box and, amazingly, it evaded everyone inside the area and curled into the far corner, putting Inter back on level terms in this tie.
In the 41st minute, Napoli grabbed an incredible goal. The hosts had barely had a clear cut chance all game but they scored on a superb counter-attack. Ospina's distribution was absolutely perfect and set Insigne on a bursting run down the field. Only Eriksen and Young were back to defend for Inter as Insigne lifted his head, squared the ball to Mertens and he easily slotted home past Handanovic. Napoli were back ahead in the tie and Inter needed to find another goal.
The win now means Napoli are through to the finals of the Coppa Italia and will be up against Juventus who knocked out AC Milan on Friday evening, following a 1-1 draw on aggregate.
