Europa League: Sevilla, Bayer Leverkusen advance to the quarters

Sevilla have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Europa League after beating ten-man AS Roma 2-0 on Thursday evening.

Sevilla and Roma faced each other on neutral soil in Germany it a tie that was contested over just one leg, pitting together sides that finished fourth and fifth in their domestic leagues this season. Goals from Sergio Reguilón and Youssef En-Nesyr were enough to see Sevilla advance to the last eight of the competition.

Sevilla took the lead in the 22nd minute through Sergio Reguilón who scored a stunner. He took a sublime touch forward to break into space from Banega's offload. Reguilon surged forward into the box and past Mancini before slotting his effort past Lopez into the net.

Youssef En-Nesyr grabbed the second for the Spanish side, converting from close range. Fernando released Ocampos down the right flank and he skipped past the challenge of Ibanez. He sent a low ball across the face of the goal for the run of En-Nesyri, with Lopez stranded out of his net. The forward made no mistake directing his effort fist time over the line.

Red Card

Gianluca Mancini was sent off in the added minutes after he used his arm with a violent intent on De Jong and was shown a straight red card.

Roma's defeat meant Lazio will play in the Champions League football next season.

Leverkusen will now meet Inter Milan in the quarters who beat Getafe 2-0 yesterday.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Rangers (Agg 4-1)

Elsewhere, Rangers' Europa League adventure came to an end at the last-16 stage as Moussa Diaby's strike earned a 1-0 win for Bayer Leverkusen, completing a 4-1 aggregate victory for the Bundesliga side at the Bay Arena.

In the 51st minute, Rangers had a mountain to climb as Moussa Diaby got the goal his performance had deserved.  It was a fine lofted pass from deep by Charles Aranguiz, and the winger compared to Arjen Robben took the ball down on his chest before drilling his left-foot shot into the roof of the net.

The visitors hadn't reached the last eight since 2007/08 when they reached the final, but it was always going to prove a tough ask for the Scottish side given the 3-1 defeat at Ibrox back in March.
